How to Fix a 1998 Honda Civic Power Window Track

How to Fix a 1998 Honda Civic Power Window Track

The power window track on your 1998 Honda Civic is used to guide your power windows up and down while preventing a sudden fall or an odd angle tilt. When this track is not functioning correctly, the direct result will be that your windows will not open and close properly. In order to alleviate this you will have to fix your power window track by reinserting the entire length of the window back into the power window track.

Instructions

    1

Remove all of the exposed screws on the door panel, around the door handle, and in the armrest using a Phillips head screwdriver.

    2

Lower the windows down as far as it can go.

    3

Disconnect the wiring harness from the power window controls and remove the armrest and door handle.

    4

Remove the speaker from the lower corner of the door and disconnect it from the wiring harness.

    5

Pry off the door panel using your hands or a flathead screwdriver wrapped in a shop rag. Start at the lower corner and work your way around until the entire panel pops off.

    6

Loosen the brass mounting bolt on the lower corner of the door.

    7

Use the hole where the speaker was and move the window until it slides into the power window track.

    8

    Tighten the brass mounting bolt.

    9

Reattach the door panel to the door by pushing it until all the tabs snap into place.

    10

Snap the wiring harnesses for the speaker and the power window control back into place.

    11

Screw the armrest, speaker, and door handle into place with the screws your removed earlier and a Phillips head screwdriver.

RON95 RON97 or X Power

Peugeot enthusiasts asked my choice of fuel for myPeugeot 308 and whether Im using V-Power.
I do not have any credible proof that V-Power actually works wonder on normal cars that we drive daily. I found a website/forum mentions that Shell V-Power conforms to RON97 or better...while other website says Shell V-Power is actually RON-95 fuel with certain additives!

According to the company website V-Power is a unique formulation that was developed as a Formula-1 technical partner to a well known team. It says V-Power is a totally redesigned petrol - not just one that’s been enhanced with additives.

The report added that with the help of the team and a multiple F1 World Champion, theyd proved V-Power’s supreme performance on the race-track and was surprised at the marginal difference in performance [Milli-seconds time difference is significant in F1 lap timings]

After some literature researches, I found no further technical explanation describing the advantage of V-Power for normal cars though.

As I said earlier, probably V-power has a few milli-seconds advantage lap time over conventional fuel- but insignificant for normal cars which can tolerate seconds if not minutes to arrive at destinations. And remember that F1 engines run at extreme temperatures and rev-up around 20,000rpm! I doubt most normal road running cars are hot enough to burn V-power fuel efficiently.

One can identify whether V-Power or hi-RON fuel is suitable for the car by just looking at the tail pipes. If excessive black soot present then the fuel used might be too high octane or the car had been running cold. On the other hand, if the engine knocks it means higher octane [RON] is required.
For time being myPeugeot 308 only use RON-97 and will be using RON-95 for daily driving when the later is available. Nevertheless RON-97 still be used on long distance high-speed, hi-rev spirited driving. Read RON 95 vs RON97.

FLOATED PRICE OF RON 97 AND INTRODUCTION OF RON 95 PETROL IN MALAYSIA

THE price of premium grade petrol RON 97 will be floated according to international oil prices from September 2009. It is understood that oil companies had briefed their retailers that there would also be changes to grades of fuel sold at pumps.

Several retailers said the “regular” grade RON 92 fuel would be phased out and a new grade, RON 95, would be introduced, in addition to RON 97. The retailers said there would be a subsidy on the price of RON 95 fuel used by a majority of cars in Malaysia. Today RON-95 is available at selected Petronas stations in Klang Valley selling at RM1.75/liter.
Diesel would also be upgraded to European standards, most probably the Euro 2, allowing the introduction of more vehicle models with advanced diesel engines in Malaysia, they added. While it remains below the Euro 4M class of diesel fuel, the Euro 2 diesel has significantly lower sulphur content.

Petronas is also expected to lead the way in selling biodiesel fuel. The other oil companies are expected to follow later.

Malaysia spent some RM40.5 billion on fuel subsidies from 2005 to last year. The government has been working on a formula to reduce the amount of government subsidy on petrol while keeping negative impact from the swaying international crude oil prices to the minimum. The retailers said it was also possible that taxes imposed on the premium grade fuel would be used to subsidise the RON 95 price.

308 RC Power Plants

The 308 RC flagship will have a power plant similar to Mini Cooper JCW 1.6-liter turbo that could generate almost 160kW [220bhp] and 280Nm [300Nm on over-boost]. While the entry level 308 RC may be fitted with the 1.6 litre Turbo High Pressure engine produces a maximum power of nearly 130kW (175 bhp) and a torque of 240 Nm from as low as 1600 rpm. The torque output of the engine remains virtually unchanged all the way up to 4500 rpm but can be increased temporarily for a short burst to 260 Nm on the over-boost function.

For the top performance [and good fuel consumption] the engine has...

Direct, high-pressure fuel injection - producing a high power output. The system consists of a high-pressure injection pump supplying individual fuel injectors that inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber at a maximum pressure of 120 bar.

An over-boost system - enabling the torque output to be increased temporarily from 280Nm to 300Nm and 240 Nm to 260 Nm respectively in the top three or four gears.

Twin-Scroll turbocharger - which combines the exhaust gases flowing from two individual cylinders in the exhaust manifold before they enter the turbocharger compressor. The combined flow of the exhaust gasses is directed through Scrolls in the turbocharger turbine housing increasing the force applied to rotate the turbine. The direct result is a reduction in the turbocharger response time (turbo lag).

The turbocharger compressor - made of steel due to the high operating temperatures.

Continuously variable timing of the inlet camshaft [VVT] and the use of roller cam followers - help to reduce internal friction and increase power and torque while also reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The controlled output oil pump - supplies only the exact volume of oil required by the engine and eliminates unnecessary engine power consumption and the detrimental effect on fuel consumption.

How to Repair a Power Window on a Windstar 2002

The primary components of a power window are the glass, the regulator that holds the glass, the control switches and the wiring connecting the switch to the regulator. Cracked or broken window glass needs to be replaced, but the regulator, the switches and the wiring can also cause problems. What you need to do for repairs depends on where the malfunction is. This can be tricky on a Ford Windstar 2002 van, as the window glass and regulator are installed with rivets instead of bolts.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the vans negative battery cable with the window down.

    2

Pry out the trim cover for the inside handle with a small flat screwdriver, then pull out the switch control plate, disconnecting its electrical connector. Replace the control plate and skip to Step 8 if thats all you need.

    3

Pull out the side mirror cover, then remove all the screws on the door panel along the edges and behind the switch plate. Pull the panel off its clips and off the door, then peel away the watershield.

    4

Disconnect the electrical connector for the window regulator. If the wiring is damaged and this is the only issue, install a new wiring harness and skip to Step 7.

    5

Drill out the rivets holding the window glass to the regulator and lift the glass out of the door. Drill out the regulators rivets, then pull the arm bracket and regulator out through the service hole.

    6

Install the new regulator within the door and fasten it with a rivet gun. Slide and lower the door glass into the door and regulator and apply rivets to it, then connect the electrical connector.

    7

Paste the watershield back onto the door and reinstall the door panel with its clips and screws.

    8

Plug in the electrical connector and install the switch plate followed by all other small trim panels you removed.

    9

    Reconnect the battery cable.
