Volkswagen cars are slightly different from other models. If youre looking to change the brake caliper in your Jetta, you need to see if the caliper uses guide pin bolts or not before beginning. You also need to take into account the importance of the hydraulic line (referred to as the brake line in other cars).
Instructions
- 1
Lift the car securely on the jack and remove the wheel. If you dont have a jack stand, consult an auto expert to find one appropriate for a Jetta.
2Begin to remove the caliper from the hydraulic line from the caliper, but not completely. Remove the caliper from the carrier first by removing the bolts, then remove it from the hydraulic line.
3Thread the replacement caliper onto the hydraulic line and tighten it by hand. Fit the caliper onto the carrier, replace the bolts and finish tightening the hydraulic line.
4Bleed the system with the help of a bleeder bottle. Connect the bottle hose to the brake bleeder valve, open the valve and use the brake pedal to remove air.
5Replace the wheel and lower the car off the jack. Dont test the brakes on the road until you set the pads while stopped. Pump the pedal multiple times until it feels firm.
